Class: B4 Felted Bag
Skills Taught: Bobbles, Bump Stitch, Knitting With Beads, Felting (Fulling), I-cord, Choosing Colors
This is a great class to learn new techniques. This bag pattern by Trish Bloom is a canvas for creativity. The “B4” name comes from the Bobbles, Bump Stitch, Bead Knitting, and Sewn-on Buttons that are part of the bag construction.
Check the designer link, above, on Ravelry to see just a sampling of the many ways you can interpret the color palette. The bag can also be knit in one or two colors, for a more subdued look.
Date and time to be determined by student availability. We would like to offer this as a once-a-month course, beginning in October or November. It will take 3 to 4 sessions to complete. Contact Lauren at The Needleworks, in Saegertown, PA to pre-register for the class, and I will contact you to find a time that works for everyone’s schedule. A limit of 6 student spaces are available, and all ages are welcome!
Learn to Knit
Skills taught: knitting, purling, Casting on, Binding off, Felting (fulling), embellishing hand-knits
A Class for new knitters who will be thrilled to create a useful item for the home or an accessory in just three classes! Most beginning knitters are told to make a scarf, and I have to agree with Stephanie Pearl McPhee, aka The Yarn Harlot, that this is the worst project for a new knitter. Very discouraging to have yards and yards of uneven stitches and months of knitting without a project to use or wear. (And, by the time you finish it, you are a much better knitter and wouldn’t be caught dead wearing it for fear that someone would think you made the hideous monstrosity.)
So, instead, we will make felted coasters, flowers, and pins! You will learn to knit at the first class and spend your first week on your own making a small square (or sort-of-square, if you accidentally drop a stitch or two). Yes, it will be uneven and you may have some mistakes in it, but you will be felting it, so it doesn’t matter! Felting creates a fabric that you can even cut if you want. This is the perfect project for a new knitter. Each class, we will work on a new technique that you will practice while making another coaster for your set or another flower for your bag, hat, or a gift for a friend.
